What's up JOE!

The Earthhub formula:
  1. Introduce your story.
  2. Discuss the facts.
  3. Try to be positive.
  4. Show some type of action or way to help!

So you are making a video to share? Awesome!  It’s easy and here are some general guidelines to help you.  Before filming we encourage you to read everything so you can approach your short video with a clear understanding of EarthHub.TV guidelines.

Before you begin filming, think about…

  1. What is your subject? This can be anything from picking up trash in a local environment, a local issue you feel strongly about, a way you’ve become more sustainable in your daily life, anything at all that demonstrates how you’re helping out in your local environment.
  2. What is your style?  How will you present yourself and your information in YOUR video?
  3. Do some research! Become familiar with WHY the issue is important and come up with facts to present the issue. This will put the issue into perspective for your viewers.
  4. Tone matters: Earthhub is spreading positivity through action. We want to inspire others and bring a feeling of “We can do this!”  Try to maintain a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and don’t be afraid to show passion for your local environment.
  5. The core of EarthHub involves action. How are YOU helping? How can others follow YOUR lead and create change? Nothing is black n white and its ok to show multiple options.

Good so far? Awesome! The Earthhub team has put together this list of tips and tricks that will help improve your filming experience!

When filming, remember to…

  1. Keep your camera still so that it doesn’t make your viewers dizzy. Try to find a place to rest your camera/phone and take footage. If you can maybe ask a family member to help.
  2. Two key components of a good video clip are sound and lighting. Think about how the light will look and what kinds of background noise might be heard.
  3. Plan to shoot at a time or place that is quiet (can you hear yourself) and has light that is bright but not too direct ( you don’t want the sun in your eyes).

So now you’re ready to get started, right? You’ve got the basic understanding, now we’re going to give you a more detailed (but simple) list of instructions for you to make a totally awesome EarthHub video!

IN DEPTH EXPLANATION FOR VIDEO PRODUCTION

Alright! Now that we’ve warmed up your brainstorming engine, let’s get down to the nuts and bolts! Some of what you’re about to see was already mentioned above, but we want to ensure you’re as prepared as possible before jumping into your video production, so bear with us! You’re almost en route to filming your official EarthHub video! Take a peek at the instructions below to get started!

  1. Define your environment. What ecosystems are you dedicating your time to help?
  2. Define what environmental issue you are addressing.
  3. What are some facts to back up the issue? Don’t go overboard here… but we want you to educate your audience and really bring this issue into perspective for them.
  4. How are you making a difference? Try to provide more than one action that your peers can take to usher real, tangible change in their local environments.
  5. Make sure to credit any sources/people in your video. This includes music, facts, or any information included that is not your own original content
  6. Edit your videos. Perhaps have some friends or family review your video? Make some changes so that the end result is a short video that flows well and covers all the necessary bases from our guidelines in this production template.
  7. Preferred length is 1-5 minutes
  8. Before you complete your video edits, we would like you to download the Earthhub logo file at the bottom of this page, and input the logo either at the beginning of the video, end of the video, or both!
  9. Done? Yay!! We now ask you to upload your video to your youtube channel and send us the link so we can formally review your video (if you don’t have a youtube channel, it is super simple to create an account). If you are not comfortable with creating an account we can still review your video, it just may take a little longer. Please reach out to us at [email protected].

Just to be sure, we want to reiterate the most important elements of our video production guidelines below:

CONNECTION – Who are you, and what environment are you helping? How do you and I connect with the issue?

INFORMATION – What is the problem? What do we know about how humans are impacting this environmental issue?

EMPATHY – How will showing empathy for this environment impact its inhabitants? (for us, for the animals living there, ect)

ACTION – What is your solution? What are other ways people can get involved? (i.e. if trash is your subject, you can do a trash pickup, you can explore sustainable alternatives to products you use & consume, or you can contact your local representatives to discuss the importance of this issue to you).
